‘Robotic surgery is redefining what’s possible in the operating theatre’: St Vincent’s Hospital transforms patient care with robotic precision

Surgeons at St Vincent’s Hospital are pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in open surgery with robotic microsurgery. Jordan, a 27-year-old patient, initially expected to undergo a laryngectomy to address the sarcoma found in a highly complex part of his throat, which may have resulted in the loss of his ability to speak and eat normally. Using Symani, Dr. Ed Morrison, Plastics and Reconstructive Surgeon, reconstructed the delicate vessels of the throat following tumor removal, avoiding a full laryngectomy while preserving Jordan’s ability to speak.

7News Melbourne highlighted this world-first procedure and how St. Vincent’s Clinical Microsurgery Robotic Unit is providing advanced care options in an interview with Dr. Morrison and Jordan. Watch the feature below.
