Giuseppe Prisco is CEO at MMI, a medical devices startup he founded in 2011, upon moving to the Pisa area. Previously he was Managing Principal at Intuitive Surgical, leading development projects with yearly budgets in the $5M range for products with $~1B market potential. He invented and brought to market the daVinci Singles Site product offering, for single port surgery. He has 15 years experience as individual technical contributor to robotics products such as the 6 axis Adept Robot and the daVinci surgical robot. He holds 27 patents and 63 published patent applications in the fields of controls, robotics, endoscopy and surgery. Giuseppe is a Member of IAG, Italian Angels for Growth, the largest italian business angels group and co-founder of SAMBA, the Sant’Anna Milky Business Angels Network, an investment forum that provides mentoring to local startups. He is zen Buddhist and has recently become the proud owner of a white puppy.
Massimiliano Simi is Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer at MMI since 2012, where he does technical design, development and prototyping of new medical devices. During his Ph.D. he worked at the BioRobotics Insitute at the University of Pisa and STORM labs in Nashville, TN. He is an Author of 9 ISI Journal Papers, 18 International Conference Proceedings and 5 Patents and was awarded Best Ph.D. in BioEngineering by the Italian National Bioengineering Group. He is a singer and songwriter, the lead singer and guitarist in a rock band that he has been rocking with his brothers and friends for over ten years!
Hannah Teichmann is Scientist at MMI. She is responsible for the planning and execution of clinical trials, medical clinical literature and comparative care analysis, the coordination of clinical centres and product feedback from clinical centres to MMI. During her Ph.D. in Neuroscience at Stanford she also became active in patient care and advocacy, consulting clients on evidence-based medicine and healthcare decisions in women’s health in the Bay Area. She has published in internationally peer-reviewed journals including Nature Neuroscience. She is trilingual English, German and Italian and speaks conversational French and Spanish, able to work effectively with international clients. She has provided labor support to women at twenty hospital and homebirths, has danced ballet since she was four and is excited to have made her own olive oil this year.
Matteo Bagheri is a thesis student in aerospatial engineering at Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna carrying out his thesis research at MMI and ready to join the team when he graduates. He spent six months at Stanford and two months at Jet Propulsion Labs in Pasadena during his undergraduate and is an avid basketball player.
